Tips for Storing an Unused Refrigerator

Keeping a refrigerator clean and dry while it is not in use is the of the up most importance. If any amount of water is left behind in the refrigerator, damages can done to the mechanics of the unit. Also, mold and mildew can cause unsightly stains that are almost impossible to be rid of.

The first step to keeping a dry and therefore clean refrigerator is to make sure that there is no moisture in the unit. This can be done by wiping down the inside of the refrigerator with a dry cloth. This will get rid of any of the water or liquids that are left behind. Once the interior of the unit has been cleaned and then dried, prop the door open about one inch so that air can circulate throughout.

Mildew and mold is not the worse that can happen to the inner workings of a refrigerator. The water and/or other liquids can find its way to the electric motors and fans. If the water finds its way to the motor, it can cause the components of the motor to corrode.
